Taking a break.....

See the reason for the break??? We had to go to a wedding. No working on the basement this weekend. Left to right: Britni, Molly, friend, friend, friend, Becky, flower girl, Aggie, Kevin, Kevin's brother, friend Joseph, friend, Zeb, and there were girl triplets next to Britni that didn't get in the photo.
The Bride- Notice the pearls....they are from Grandma Irene!!! When Mom shortened the wedding dress, Aggie said she had been looking for a set of pearls but never found any she liked. She had the dress on and Sharon went upstairs and got these. Aggie tried them on and started getting all teary eyed because they were exactly what she was looking for!!! Aren't they pretty? and they were her something 'borrowed'.

Wedding guests- Robbie, Christine, Holly, Beth, Paul, Mom

The Wawra tradition continues....??Andy, Larry, Kevin, Peter, Paul
YMCA!!!  Yeah, Sharon and Dad
Dad and Holly--- she was prepared but didn't know it was only for the boys.. Hee Hee
Here's the action shot........
Ready Sharon??? Better prepare the Kohlhaas family.

Remodeling Continues - Mom and Dad's Partime Job

Finally they started on the bathroom. They put down cement before they lay the floor. Carolyn, the tile guy was Jim Miller. Brian Miller's uncle. They look exactly alike! They talk alike and they even walk alike. It was like talking to Brian himself! :-)
This is the new floor.
Then he tiled the walls. Mom is counting the days till she can have her first bath.

Mom and Dad start the project of building and egress window wall. That's Paul K.showing us how to get started. He showed us what to do and then we would do it.

Here's mom working in the hole. HOT, SUNNY and BUGGY!! Notice the sweatband. See the blue tarp. Next picture explains it.

This is what happened to the hole we dug after a 3 1/2 inch rain! It filled up and came through the window!!!

Dad is soooo smart he used the tubing from Paul's fish tank to syphon out the water from the hole. It had already started coming through the walls and going down to the drain in the laundry room. That's the reason for the blue tarp! Now in order to fix the problem we have to put a new roof on the top of the upstairs bedrooms and new gutters!! And to think this all started by remodeling the bathroom! Geez!

Dad used Paul K's saw to cut the bricks. Lots of work.

Nice job ?

Work in progress. We didn't know it would be so much work.

Look who's helping. See mom?

It's taking shape. Now they put the molding in place and the closet doors.

The bookcases are in place.

That's it for now.....

Chloe ready for another week of worK?

Chloe's ready for the work to begin. They make so much noise that we call them the 'pounders'.

The before......

The after.....

"Oh no! Another window I have to guard!!"

Waiting for the 'pounders".

Trying to get as far away from the "pounders" as she can for her nap.

This is how it looked before the sheet rock. The blue stuff is insulation. No more space heaters for mom. Hope the video works.

Here comes the sheet rock! Dad wouldn't let them drive on the driveway so they had to use the big arm.

This shows the sheetrock all in place and then the inspector came.

The weekend begins

Friday night Ms.Wawra needed help with EFF at her school. Basically it was like the old Fun Fair at Sheridan Hills but with a trend toward environmentalism. Mom and Dad helped Ms. Wawra teach kids how to make "sound sandwiches"- ie, toungue depressors with rubber bands around them to make them sound like a kazoo. Long day for Ms Wawra. good thing we were able to help.
Ms Wawra still has a smile after teaching 30 kids for a full week, being in her classroom since 6:30 am and teaching her 150th kid how to make a 'sound sandwich' at 7:30 pm. Ain't she a real teacher??!!
One last look before the workers come. Remember Dad's closet with his pots and garden stuff?? going, going, gone!
Here's Dad's workbench! It gets to stay but the wall and Grandpa Georges nail jars have to go. Don't worry Dad saved them. :-)
Lots of wood to get rid of. The wall it's leaning on has to go to. Poor Chloe-- no privacy.
These are the wood haulers. First you lay down the moving blanket. Then you pile the wood on the moving blanket being careful of the nails--lots and lots of nails..........
Then you wrap up the wood in the moving blanket and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y carry the wood out of the basement. And of coarse smiling all the while. :-)
Then you dump the wood out of the moving blanket into the dumpster- all the while it is raining! And then you do it all over again and again and again and.......

There goes the wall to the laundry. Poor Chloe- no privacy!

The 'wood haulers' got a new job- rolling up the floor- not easy! Right Sharon?!

"Hmmm-  that's where those bugs came from"
Chloe has to 'go'. Now what does she do??

Everybody needed a break---Sharon or Chloe? Who needed it more?

ALL DONE- ALL GONE - except for the memories  :-(
